A Proven Record of Leadership
T.J. Brown is an experienced Republican Party leader with deep familiarity with Illinois election law, party governance, and the political realities of suburban Cook County.
Raised in Libertyville, T.J. graduated from Carmel High School in 1993 and earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. While at IU, he served in leadership roles within the College Republicans, worked as a staff writer and columnist for the Indiana Daily Student, and participated directly in competitive congressional, mayoral, and statehouse campaigns. These experiences grounded his understanding of political organization, messaging, and the practical mechanics of winning races in difficult environments.
After college, T.J. remained engaged in Republican politics through campaign and volunteer work at the federal, state, and local levels. He returned to sustained party involvement in 2011 through the New Trier Republican Organization, where he led communications efforts and supported campaigns for Congress, statewide office, and the Illinois General Assembly. He later served as Field Director and Communications Director for Joan Lasonde’s congressional campaign, helping to run a serious, credible campaign in a district long dominated by Democrats.
In 2018, T.J. ran as a write-in candidate for Northfield Township Republican Committeeman when no Republican had filed for the position. At a time of rapid demographic change and severe political headwinds for Republicans in Illinois, he believed it was essential to preserve a functioning township organization rather than allow it to lapse. He was elected and has since served as committeeman for two terms.
During his tenure, T.J. has focused on the core responsibilities of the office: maintaining compliance with election law, supporting candidates with ballot access and organization, representing the township on the County Central Committee, and ensuring continuity and institutional stability during challenging political cycles.
T.J. holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Indiana University, a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications, and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University Chicago. Professionally, he serves as IT, Sales, and Marketing Manager at Mohawk Mfg. & Supply Co.
He has lived in Northbrook for more than two decades and is raising his two children with his wife, Joanna.
